Thomas and the Titanic
Our human longing to connect with a bigger story was expressed this weekend in myriad ways as people all over the world connected to the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. In his book Secular Age, Charles Taylor says that this sort of event demonstrates that spiritual longing still wants to find expression even when not completely articulated. More >
Temporary
Easter Sunday morning, revelling in the resurrection, the word “temporary” rambled through my consciousness. From Thursday till Sunday Jesus experienced a series of rapidly changing “temporary” circumstances- from an upper room friendship dinner, to a prayer garden, to unjust court rooms, through the suffering and wounds of the cross, to the tomb’s darkness, to the resurrection garden, conversation on the Emmaus road, breathing forgiveness in the upper room- all telescoped into three days. Prayer on the Road
Jesus had remarkable ability to stop and focus. A beggar calls and those around Jesus find themselves bumping into each other as he does the unexpected and apparently unimportant – stop and listen to the cry of a roadside beggar. More >
