Truth is a Lemon Meringue
I burst out laughing when my grandkids chanted this line from one of their storybooks. “The truth is a lemon meringue” is now a laughter inducing mantra around our family. It is appropriate given my penchant for baking and enjoying that very pie. Say it out loud where you are now – feel the smile on your face.
The following quote elicited a gentle, deeper response the other day; “….few of us can ever be our complete and better selves without another who will stand before us, reflecting back an image of ourselves as someone worthy of being loved and forgiven.” (From an interview with singer/songwriter Joe Henry in Image Journal Fall 2011)
At prayer this morning I pictured the Father’s face reflecting love, forgiveness and worth. Here’s an inward mantra that bears repeating as we encounter one another – “Let me reflect that you are worthy of love and forgiveness.”
Prayer for Today
Loving God, I sit here at this moment in time believing your face reflects love and forgiveness. I need them both now. It is even more inspiring that you think I am worth loving and forgiving. Help me reflect this to others in my encounters this week. For Jesus’ sake … Amen
