May Two-Four Weekend – let the summer begin
Beer, barbecues, family gatherings, fireworks and cottage openings signal we are over the winter grind and good weather and recreation are forecast for the months ahead. When I was a kid, this weekend meant school would soon be over and summer fun would begin in earnest – that feeling still exists for me today.
The kid in this old guy still gets a psychological boost from this holiday in honour of some long departed queen named Victoria. I need the rhythm of work and rest, tension and recreation, seed time and harvest that the changing seasons offer us.
God has placed eternity in our hearts and we give thanks for this natural rhythm that keeps us tuned into his eternal rhythms.
A Prayer for Today
Lord, temper with tranquility,
our manifold activity
that we may do our work for thee
with very great simplicity.
(A 16th Century Prayer)
