Just when we thought life could go no faster there is news from the Large Hadron Collider that neutrinos can travel faster than the speed of light. Ever since Einstein there has been an immutable law of science that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light – what’s the new speed limit now?

Scientists are sceptical that the experiments producing this result are right – even though they have been repeated 16,000 times. Obviously I have no intelligent response to this except to be amazed and humbled at the wonder of creation.

Francis Collins, leader of the Human Genome Project, called science the language of God. In the midst of the chaos and unpredictability of life we may see God’s longing for relationship with us – even in something as puzzling as this recent scientific questioning of a century of assumptions.

A Prayer for Today

Loving God, the wonder of creation causes me to pause humbly before your creativity. I am no scientist but thank you for science and its desire to understand what you are doing even with something as tiny as a neutrino…. For Jesus’ sake….
