Why Is Gratitude Hard?
“Why is it that so many of us struggle with gratitude?” a friend responded to last week’s reflection. We played a bit of email tennis exploring this question.
I hit the ball back to him with “I know my struggle is a combination of missing the wonder around me- so focussed on speeding through that I miss the scenery – so much input that the mind gets forgetful of more real things.”
His backhand lob said “…no question….and the wonder in people too…we can focus on the scenic muck and miss the fall colours and we often focus on people in the same way…at least I do…and I don’t think I’m alone.”
I’m trying to take more notice of life so my gratitude quotient increases.
A Prayer for Today
Loving God, let me notice people and places, events and encounters through eyes of wonder and clarity. I see and hear the pain in life, and yet let me see the grace notes even in the darkest of places. I am grateful for this day as a gift from you. For Jesus’sake….
