The song is entitled “We Fall back Amazed” and the line that has stayed with me is “Be lifted up”. In the near future we’ll be releasing my Zoom conversations with Mike Janzen about his two album “Psalms Project” from which this song comes. Yesterday I listened to this song before listening to Mark’s account of Jesus’ arrest, trial, crucifixion and burial.

The warm and rich sound of a flugelhorn complemented our listening experience of an album the other night. I like the sound of the word “flugelhorn”. I like the sound of the flugelhorn in the hands of a gifted player. Lent began with ashes reminding us of the words that often are said when committing a body to burial – “earth to earth, dust to dust, ashes to ashes”.

It’s Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. Last year on Ash Wednesday I attended a service and had the sign of the cross drawn on my forehead in ashes. As he drew the ashen cross the Rector said “Remember you are dust and to dust you will return”.
