Stones in a wall (2)
/Scripture
Welcome to the living Stone, the source of life. The workmen took one look and threw it out; God set it in the place of honor. Present yourselves as building stones for the construction of a sanctuary vibrant with life, in which you’ll serve as holy priests offering Christ-approved lives up to God. (1Peter 2:4-5 MSG)
Stones in a wall (2)
Good bricklayers are hard to find and expensive – as I discovered last Fall when we needed our chimney cap repaired. The problem was much worse than we first thought but the bricklayer carefully removed and replaced dozens of bricks and the chimney is fine now. Bricks came and went but the chimney continues to serve its purpose.
The Good Bricklayer is placing and replacing bricks in the house of faith as centuries pass. We are moved around, moved on to higher locations – but at all times we are only useful as we are connected to one another. When we take a moment to pray we are praying with a world full of praying stones. When we are serving it is for that larger purpose.
We are certain in our place in the Good Bricklayer’s building but must engage with one another with humility in our understanding of what it is all about. It is the mind of the Good Bricklayer that we are seeking to have shape our lives and our thinking.
A Prayer for Today
Good Bricklayer, I pray today conscious I am praying with millions of others you are building together in the house of faith. Help me lose the “it’s all about me” perspective and adopt an “it’s about us”, as you build us together for your purposes. Grant me the wisdom to know that it is the mind of Christ in all this that matters most …. For Jesus’ sake.
