Make your own Application
/Scripture
“So he answered: I have explained the secrets about God's kingdom to you, but for others I can only use stories. These people look, but they don't see, and they hear, but they don't understand.” (Luke 8:10 CEVUK))
Make your own Application
This should be a comedy series. We’d rented a place for part of this month to get away for a bit. But the dishwasher didn’t work. A call to the rental agency brought Randy, followed in sequence by Jimmy, Owen and finally Larry. The first three looked, experimented, ran tests with fancy devices and replaced an breaker in the electrical panel. All to no avail.
Slow talking Larry quietly looked at the offending appliance and said “Think I’ll check the power source”. He pulled the dishwasher out from the counter and plugged the power cord back in - it had fallen out of its outlet. When I asked him if he was going to bust his colleague’s chops for missing the obvious, he just said, “Jimmy sometimes just moves too fast.”
There are a host of easy applications here that one might make about basic observation of life, moving too fast to see the obvious and staying plugged in to the power source. All to easy but I just enjoyed this story as a mirror of how I often operate. Race to help, miss the obvious and someone more perceptive helps with a solution. Make your own application.
A Prayer for Today
I thank You God for most this amazing
day: for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes
(I who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday; this is the birth
day of life and of love and wings: and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)
how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any–lifted from the no
of all nothing–human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?
(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)
