Sorrow & Turmoil (2)
/Scripture
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice. (Proverbs 31:8,9 NLT)
Sorrow & Turmoil (2)
In all the noise of politics it is easy for me to dismiss people with “He’s an idiot”. The new president is a prime example. I find his name calling and bullying distasteful but it turns out I may be no better. The other morning, I was praying and thinking about some of this.
Surprising myself I found I was praying for some grace in his life from the Father of all kindness who shines the sun on us all without consideration or preference. The more distant a person is from us the easier it is for us to dismiss them and their intrinsic human value.
The anger we see in the frustrated, the terrorist, may be just beneath the surface in our own attitudes. We have lots to learn. Our resentments, our insecurities can be barometers indicating we need to be refreshed in the creative and patient love of God.
A Prayer for Today
Gentle God, the other morning your sun shone warm and bright, doing for my inner self what it was doing for the earth. There is so much injustice and pain in the world I need reminding that as your sun warms me you desire that I care for the world you have created. Let me be a person who speaks up for good causes and doesn’t just voice resentments ... for Jesus’ sake
